2 Books That Actually Changed the Trajectory of my Life

Finding purpose takes work, but these two books are a great place to start.

I have often found myself wondering what the point of it all is. What am I working towards? Who do I want to be? Where do I see myself in five years?

About a year ago I started to realise that I couldn’t answer these questions at all, and my concern— confounded by overwhelming stress at work — evolved into existential panic. I had to take a few days out of work, as I felt that I had lost almost all sense of direction, and found myself in a dark place mentally.

In the days that followed, I didn’t know what to do to fix the problem. I knew that I needed to work towards answering those big life questions but had no idea where to start — I didn’t feel happy a lot of the time, or fulfilled, but I also wasn’t sure what the solution was.

After a couple of days of getting nowhere good, my boyfriend gave me a book…

“Designing Your Life: Build Your Perfect Career, Step By Step”

A book — and concept — by Stanford Engineers Bill Burnett and Dave Evans. They say that we will spend up to 120,000 hours at work in our lifetimes, and that working out how to best use that time…
